History of Sindh: Sindh, known as the land of the mighty Indus River, boasts a rich and storied history that dates back thousands of years. Home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations, the Indus Valley Civilization, Sindh has been a cradle of human civilization and culture. The ancient city of Mohenjo-Daro, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands as a testament to the region’s rich heritage and advanced urban planning.
Throughout history, Sindh has been a hub of trade and commerce, attracting merchants and travelers from across the world. The region has been ruled by various dynasties, including the Maurya, Gupta, and Arab empires, each leaving their mark on its cultural landscape. Under the Arab Caliphate, Sindh flourished as a center of Islamic learning and scholarship, contributing to the spread of Islam in the Indian subcontinent.
During the British colonial period, Sindh became part of British India, with Karachi emerging as a major port city and administrative center. Following Pakistan’s independence in 1947, Sindh became a province of the newly formed country, with Karachi serving as its capital. Today, Sindh is known for its rich cultural heritage, vibrant cities, and diverse communities.
Cities of Sindh: Sindh is home to a multitude of cities, each with its own unique charm and significance. Karachi, the provincial capital and Pakistan’s largest city, is a bustling metropolis known for its vibrant culture, diverse population, and economic opportunities. Hyderabad, the second-largest city in Sindh, is renowned for its historic landmarks, including the iconic Charminar.
Other notable cities in Sindh include Sukkur, famous for its ancient barrage and bustling bazaars; Larkana, the birthplace of Pakistan’s founding father, Muhammad Ali Jinnah; and Thatta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its historic architecture and vibrant culture. From the coastal city of Gwadar to the ancient town of Mohenjo-Daro, Sindh’s cities form a vibrant tapestry of culture, history, and tradition.
Our Mission in Sindh: At One Vision Society, we’re proud to be part of Sindh’s rich tapestry, serving its residents with compassion and dedication. Through our water filter distribution initiative, we’ve already served thousands of families in non-developed areas, providing them with clean drinking water and the hope of a better future. Our church branches, Sunday Schools, brick kiln work, and other initiatives aim to provide holistic support to communities across Sindh, addressing both their physical and spiritual needs.
As we continue our journey in Sindh, we invite you to join us in our mission of service and hope.
