History of Punjab: Punjab, which translates to “Land of Five Rivers,” has been inhabited since ancient times. The region’s fertile plains and abundant water sources attracted early civilizations, including the Indus Valley Civilization, which flourished along the banks of the Indus River. Over the centuries, Punjab has been home to various empires and dynasties, including the Maurya, Gupta, and Mughal empires. With the arrival of Islam in the 7th century and subsequent invasions from Central Asia, Punjab became a cultural melting pot, blending diverse traditions and languages.

During the British colonial period, Punjab emerged as a significant center of resistance against colonial rule, with Lahore serving as a key hub of the independence movement. The partition of British India in 1947 resulted in the division of Punjab between India and Pakistan, leading to mass migrations and violence. Despite the trauma of partition, Punjab emerged as a vital component of the newly formed Pakistan, contributing to its cultural, economic, and agricultural development.
